Sunfield Garden School, Lower School

Background

We were delighted to work with Sunfield Garden School and the talented architects from Ruskin Mill Trust to design and install a multisensory outdoor space for the Lower School children. Ruskin Mill Trust is a long-standing registered charity known for its research-led approach to education and care for children and adults with learning differences across the UK.

The design of the semicircular space, facing south, was carefully planned to ensure that staff members have clear visibility of the children at all times. The raised beds we installed were specifically chosen to accommodate changes in ground levels and ensure full accessibility for all children, allowing them to fully enjoy planting flowers and herbs.

What We Did

Our specialist installation team installed 240 metres of our 400mm x 5mm retaining Corten steel edging for this project. To ensure structural integrity and effective retention of soil and plants, we utilised 30mm x 5mm angle iron ground pegs, 660mm long, placed at 750mm intervals. Our team brought the edging to the site in three-metre lengths, with every joint meticulously welded together with a steel backing plate.

It was a pleasure to work with the Ruskin Mill Trust and to help create this stunning outdoor space to encourage children to learn through nature and enjoy time with friends and teachers.
